Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 12, 2026
The short version: the STLOrganizer app keeps your files and metadata on your machine — we never see them. This website uses analytics only if you click Accept on the cookie banner. The newsletter stores your name and email on our own server, and every email has an unsubscribe link. We don't sell or share your data with anyone.
Who we are
STLOrganizer is a Forgetek project built by George-Adrian Balas, based in Romania. For anything privacy-related, contact us at hello@stlorganizer.com.
The desktop app
STLOrganizer is local-first by design. Your library, files, tags, thumbnails, notes, and all other metadata are stored in a local database on your computer. No account is required and the app sends no telemetry about your files.
The app talks to the internet only when you use features that need it:
- Updates — the app checks our server (STLVerse) for new versions and filament database definitions.
- Discover — if you open the Discover page, trending models are fetched from Cults3D.
- Community — entirely opt-in and off by default. If you enable it, only the tags and path templates you explicitly mark as Public are shared, in anonymized form. Your collections, files, thumbnails, and personal metadata never leave your device.
Website analytics
This website uses two analytics tools to understand how many people visit and download the app — but only after you click Accept on the cookie banner. If you decline (or simply ignore the banner), no analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is collected about your visit.
- Matomo — self-hosted on our own server, so this data stays under our control and is not shared with any third party. It records things like pages visited, approximate location (country), browser type, and download clicks.
- Google Analytics — a third-party service by Google that collects similar usage statistics. Google may process this data on servers outside the EU. See Google's privacy policy.
You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing this site's cookies and local storage in your browser — the banner will ask again on your next visit.
Download counter
When you download the installer, our server increments an anonymous counter — a single number, with no personal information attached. Like virtually every website, our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs (IP address, time, requested URL) for security and troubleshooting; these are not used for profiling.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter, we store the name and email address you provide on our own self-hosted mailing system — no third-party email marketing service is involved. We use it solely to send release notes and product updates for STLOrganizer.
- Subscription is confirmed by email (double opt-in) — you're only added after clicking the confirmation link.
- Every newsletter contains a one-click unsubscribe link.
- We never sell, rent, or share the list with anyone.
- To be removed manually, email hello@stlorganizer.com.
Cookies & local storage
| Name | Set by | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
stl_consent (local storage) | This site | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so the banner doesn't reappear. |
_pk_*, mtm_* | Matomo (only after Accept) | Distinguishes returning visitors and remembers analytics consent. |
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics (only after Accept) | Distinguishes visitors for usage statistics. |
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you (for this site, that's essentially your newsletter subscription), and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@stlorganizer.com and we'll sort it out. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data — for example when new features ship — we'll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes affecting newsletter subscribers will be announced by email.
